Associate Technical Supervisor – Backend
Netflix Animation Studios invites talented professionals to support the technical vision of an animated feature film. The role partners closely with the Technical Supervisor, Solutions Engineering, and creative leadership to shape and evolve pipeline tools and workflows that meet the show’s unique creative and technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Establish technical direction and support for the later stages of the production pipeline including Lighting, Rendering, Compositing, Imaging, Final Output/Delivery, and Simulation/FX.
- Provide day‑to‑day technical oversight, troubleshooting, and tool development for pipeline stages.
- Collaborate with Department TDs to ensure that technical processes, tools, and workflows run smoothly and meet creative and technical requirements.
- Track and manage development initiatives, monitor estimates, scope, and deadlines, and adjust plans to keep work on track.
- Prioritize and resolve top support issues, coordinate cross‑departmental testing, and enable high‑priority fixes to move through the pipeline quickly.
- Mentor and develop TDs, support onboarding, and grow skills across the department in partnership with Talent Management.
- Communicate clearly with artists, department TDs, Program Managers, and senior leadership, tailoring messages to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Present tool demos, pipeline processes, and support dashboards to small teams.
- Produce written documentation such as specifications, tickets, and status updates.
- At least 5 years of proven pipeline TD experience in animated features, animated TV series, and/or VFX feature films.
- Demonstrated leadership in feature animation or VFX pipelines.
- Strong technical foundation with solid Python skills (including PyQt or other GUI toolkit); basic C++ and USD knowledge are a plus.
- Deep understanding of traditional production workflows and experience troubleshooting DCCs and production tracking software such as Shot Grid.
- Experience with modern software development practices: git/Git Hub, code review processes, Agile methodologies, and tools such as Jira.
- Strong problem‑solving, conflict resolution, and risk‑awareness skills.
- Degree in Animation, Film, Computer Science, Design, Engineering, Math, Physics, or equivalent professional experience.
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid role – minimum 3 days a week in the office.
Salary range: $160,000 – $200,000 CAD (total compensation). Stock options are not offered.
