Zurich Canada is looking for a Middle Market Senior Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist to join our Technology practice.

Reporting to the VP, Industry Verticals, Canada Middle Market, you will handle complex new and renewal Middle Markets business and serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the Technology practice. In this hybrid role you will fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with our distribution partners.

• Serve as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end‑to‑end insurance solution.
• Use a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Leverage risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Identify gaps involved and align Zurich’s products and value proposition to provide the contract certainty the customer needs.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and execute as an innovative advisor.
• Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business.
• Market‑face and produce within the growing Middle Markets division.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
• Develop and maintain broker relationships.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3+ years experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or 8+ years experience in claims or underwriting support.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

• Existing broker relationships.
• Cyber and E&O experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Knowledge of Middle Markets Property and Casualty underwriting.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win‑win negotiating skills.
• Presentation skills and a solutions‑oriented service mindset.
• Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines.

Senior Underwriter – $85,000 to $105,000
Underwriting Specialist – $115,000 to $135,000
