ABOUT US

STRIVE is a specialist recruitment firm offering proactive recruitment solutions in the areas of Accounting & Finance, Corporate Administration, Manufacturing Operations, and Technology. STRIVE supports various clients from small to medium‑size enterprises to Fortune 500 organizations for their permanent, contract, and temporary recruitment needs.

THE ROLE

Our client is a well‑established leader in the seniors living and healthcare sector, operating over 40 locations across multiple provinces in Canada. They are seeking an experienced Director of Procurement to join their leadership team and provide strategic oversight of procurement operations across their multi‑site organization. Reporting to senior executive leadership, the Director will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies, strengthening vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and implementing standardised purchasing processes across the organization.

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a strategic and hands‑on procurement professional who thrives in a complex, multi‑site environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving operational efficiencies, optimizing costs, and developing the procurement team, with opportunities for long‑term career growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness across multiple locations.
  • Oversee purchasing activities across diverse categories, including medical supplies, food services, housekeeping, furniture, equipment, and facility‑related services.
  • Lead supplier sourcing, contract negotiations, renewals, and vendor performance management to secure competitive pricing and favourable terms.
  • Review and evaluate supplier agreements, identify potential risks, and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Identify cost‑saving opportunities, streamline procurement workflows, and implement effective purchasing controls and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with site managers and cross‑functional teams, including Operations, Finance, and Facilities, to align procurement activities with organisational needs.
  • Manage competing purchasing priorities, assess operational requirements, and ensure sound, cost‑effective procurement decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders while effectively managing expectations and resolving challenges.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Evaluate departmental needs and support the continued growth and development of the procurement function.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • 8-10+ years of progressive experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, including experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record overseeing procurement operations within a large, multi‑site organisation, ideally across multiple regions or provinces.
  • Strong experience in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, contract management, and procurement process improvement.
  • Demonstrated success implementing procurement strategies, optimising purchasing costs, and improving operational efficiencies.
  • Experience managing substantial purchasing budgets, multiple vendors, and diverse procurement categories.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical capabilities, and sound judgement when evaluating purchasing decisions and contract terms.
  • Confident, solutions‑oriented leadership style with the ability to navigate competing priorities and make difficult decisions when necessary.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop teams while working independently with minimal oversight.
  • Professional designation in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., SCMP) or a relevant master's degree required.
  • Experience in seniors living, healthcare, hospitality, or other large multi‑location service organisations is considered a strong asset.
