Maintenance Worker (Canada Summer Jobs)
The Vancouver Japanese Language School and Japanese Hall has been located in Vancouver’s historical downtown eastside since 1906. The school, which is a not-for-profit organization as well as a charity, offers children and adults opportunities to learn Japanese language and experience a variety of cultural activities.

The Maintenance Worker will be an essential and welcome part of our team. The position is well-suited to someone who likes to research and solve problems, learn new things, and work as part of a team.

Clean, monitor, and maintain exterior and interior areas of the property, including outdoor play areas, common areas, and washrooms.

Perform indoor and outdoor routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair.

Ensure security and safety measures are in place and maintained.

Assist with rental inquiries and the online booking system.

As a friendly representative of the organization, coordinate renters’ set up and take down for events, and help with clean‑up afterward.

Use AI and on‑site personnel to develop maintenance manual and maintenance schedule for future.

Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems, coordinating with tradespersons as required.

Maintain inventory and restock supplies in washrooms and elsewhere as needed.

Report issues to the facilities team.

Provide other general assistance to the facilities team as needed.

Interest in Japanese language and culture is important.

Located in Vancouver’s historic Downtown Eastside, VJLS-JH is conveniently located near a variety of public transit options.

Start date:

May or June 2026 (negotiable)

Term: 8 weeks at 35 hours per week (flexible; longer term with fewer weekly hours may be considered)

Wage: $19/hour

Individual eligible for this term position, which is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, must:

be between 15 and 30 years of age  at the beginning  of the employment period

be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (sorry, international students are not eligible);

have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
