Job Description

The Janitorial / Maintenance Helper carries out general janitorial and maintenance duties related to the building, tenant units, and equipment as required.
POSITION PURPOSE

SUMMARY:

The position supports daily operations and ensures a safe and clean environment for residents and staff.

• Perform minor repairs in common areas and residents’ units as instructed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Check and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment, including changing air filters and light bulbs, as directed.
• Clean and maintain hallways, emergency stairways, offices, washrooms, staff room, lobbies, and patio.
• Assist in maintenance work required in vacant units.
• Remove, empty, and return garbage, recycling, and organic bins.
• Report Health & Safety-related concerns and repair issues affecting the workplace and residential environment.
• Participate in building security by checking doors and windows to ensure they are secured.
• Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as balcony areas and keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
• Restock washroom supplies and hand hygiene units.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Program Manager.

• At least 3 months of prior related work experience.
• Certification in First Aid/CPR.
• Certification in Universal Precautions.
• Certification in WHMIS 2015.
• Certification in Non-Violence Crisis Intervention.
• Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults.

Duties require working in Grace Mansion – an 84‑room, four‑storey residence located at 596 East Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver. Responsibilities may involve hazardous or disagreeable conditions at times.

Hours:

40 hours per week; 8.5 hours per day with a one‑half‑hour unpaid meal break.

Pay Band: 2

The target hiring range is $18.50 to $23.13, with a maximum of $27.76. Placement within the range will be based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications.
