Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Administration and Operations within the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), provides strategic leadership and domain expertise for the administrative work of the unit and leads select projects on behalf of the Academic Director. This includes people development and management practices, administrative leadership and oversight of unit operational functions such as finance, HR, communications, and facilities, along with responsibility for select projects that enable the Academic Director to advance CTLT’s priorities and commitments.
As part of CTLT’s Senior Management team (SMT), the Associate Director works collaboratively with the rest of the SMT to provide strategic leadership for the CTLT and to ensure connections between the work of the administration portfolio and other areas of the unit's work in supporting teaching and learning.
Organizational Status
The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology is a central academic service unit that provides leadership, academic services, and support to the university community in the areas of teaching and learning scholarship, course and program development, learning design, educational technology development, instructional support, and teaching practice development.
The Associate Director, AO:
Reports to the Academic Director.
Works in partnership with the senior management team (SMT); provides strategic advice and guidance on high level administrative matters, and take a lead role on administrative projects that strengthen CTLT’s contribution to departmental and institutional goals.
Oversees the work of the Planning, Administration and Communications (PAC) team.
Liaises regularly with the Director of Finance in the Provost’s office and with senior academic and administrative staff across the institution.
Work Performed
Leads the development of comprehensive strategies, projects, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives in operational and unit-wide activities including human resources, facilities, health and safety, administration, finance, and communications.
Oversees the leadership and day-to-day operations of CTLT’s Administration portfolio, including Human Resources, Financial Management, Facilities Management, and Communications.
Leads human resources activities and strategies. Oversees the CTLT’s annual performance review process. Works closely with UBC’s central HR team to ensure best practices around human resources are being implemented.
Leads the overall annual budget and financial processes for CTLT in consultation with the Academic Director. Supports CTLT budget owners around financial and budgeting decisions and planning. Creates unit-wide guidelines for budgetary and financial processes.
