Job Title: HSE Specialist
Job Description
The HSE Specialist will work in a manufacturing organization environment. This role leads health, safety, and environmental initiatives across two nearby sites, driving a proactive safety culture in a collaborative, people-focused environment. The HSE Specialist investigates incidents, implements preventative measures, and partners closely with supervisors and team members to ensure safe, compliant operations in a manufacturing and service setting.
Responsibilities
Lead incident management activities, including investigating health and safety incidents, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective and preventative actions.Take proactive steps to reduce risk by developing and implementing preventative measures, safety programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.Conduct daily safety investigations, inspections, and site walks to identify hazards, verify controls, and ensure adherence to safety procedures.Plan and facilitate regular monthly safety meetings to review performance, discuss trends, and align on action plans with supervisors and team members.Develop, manage, and maintain HSE documentation, including policies, procedures, records, and reports, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.Create and deliver safety training workshops and toolbox talks for supervisors and frontline staff to reinforce safe work practices and expectations.Engage team members across both sites in safety management, encouraging participation, feedback, and shared ownership of safety outcomes.Collaborate with multiple departments to promote a strong safety culture and integrate HSE considerations into daily operations and decision-making.Support and participate in site inspections and audits to verify compliance with internal standards, ISO 9001 requirements, and relevant regulations.Use Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, to track safety metrics, analyze data, and prepare reports and presentations for leadership and teams.Contribute to continuous improvement of health and safety systems, including alignment with safety management systems and certification efforts where applicable.Essential Skills
Minimum 3+ years of HSE experience in a manufacturing or construction environment.Proven experience in HSE management, including incident management, risk reduction, and safety program implementation.Strong knowledge of health and safety principles and practices, including construction safety and manufacturing safety requirements.Experience conducting site inspections and audits to assess safety performance and compliance.Familiarity with ISO 9001 and its application in a manufacturing or industrial setting.Demonstrated experience leading Health & Safety initiatives from planning through execution and follow-up.Demonstrated experience collaborating across departments to promote and sustain a culture of safety.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with strong skills in Excel for data tracking, analysis, and reporting.Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with supervisors, frontline staff, and leadership on safety topics.Strong initiative, with a go‑getter, can‑do attitude and the ability to work proactively with minimal supervision.Ability to work effectively as a team player, building positive relationships across sites and functions.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Workhub SMS (Safety Management System) or similar safety management platforms.Formal safety-related certification (such as HSE, OHS, or equivalent) is an asset.Experience contributing towards OSSE (Occupational Safety Standard of Excellence) Certification or similar safety certification programs.Experience in a manufacturing environment involving trailers, trucks, or industrial equipment is an advantage.Experience supporting or participating in formal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, documentation, and priorities across two sites.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, BC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.06 - $43.27/hr.
