POSITION DESCRIPTION
The SMT Operator will set up and program the screen printer, SMT pick and place machine, and reflow ovens to ensure all quality aspects for all assembly projects are being met. They may also be trained on operating other machinery related to PCB assembly. Must be flexible and help in other areas of the manufacturing facility as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Operate computer-controlled surface mount assembly machinery to successfully assemble surface mount technology printed circuit assemblies.
- Operation and/or setup of various SMT Line equipment:
Vacuum Sealer, Tape and Reel Machine, In-line Cleaner Machine, Stencil Cleaner Machine, Ionograph Machine, Dry Cabinet, PCB Loader, Solder Paste Printers, Feeders, and Matrix Trays - Verify parts and their feeder pick up locations against updated Setup Sheet and Assembly documentations prior to full production
- Analyze machine error messages and correct placement & printing problems on a modern pick & placement line whilst adhering to product process times.
- Kit and de-kit SMT placements machines and set up printing programs on automatic stencil printers.
- Set up and operate the surface mount equipment, maintaining high quality standards on all activities undertaken.
- Perform scheduled maintenance of workstations and equipment to optimize process performance on time.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable quality assurance standards and internal SOPs
- Document all work completed on the SMT process via shopfloor MES system.
- Provide support to other SMT Line operation and willing to fill in different SMT positions as required
- Communicate and cooperate with inspectors regarding part change or placement defects reduction strategies
- Troubleshoot equipment in an effective and efficient manner as per work instructions to reduce equipment down time
- Support 5S+1 initiative within the team

- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Previous experience working in the following are highly preferred (but not limited to): SMT/TH or Mix Tech assembly (hand soldering, inspection, rework, mechanical assembly skills);
Worked in Electronics or Manufacturing companies;
Soldering TH and SMT components - Basic understanding of PCB assembly processes and electronic components
- Knowledge / background in IPC – A – 610 standards. IPC certification is an asset
- Knowledge of SMT equipment and troubleshooting, for example, Siemens, JUKI pick and place, ASM, etc.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow assembly documentation, work instructions, assembly drawings, standard operating procedures, visual aids, etc. and perform tasks up to standard
- Awareness of safety protocols and ability to remain attentive to equipment and processes in a manufacturing environment.
- Good computer literacy (Microsoft Office Applications, Windows OS, Machine specific software/programs).
- Ability to navigate computers across older/newer OS, ability to navigate programs to operate a machine
- Good written and verbal communication in business English.
- A team player with good communication skills (ability to work with customers, within a team)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Strong organization and multi-tasking skills
- Controlled manufacturing environment
- Work is performed in sitting, standing, reaching and stooped positions
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Repetitive hand motions
- Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude
- Strong situational awareness of surroundings to ensure personal safety and prevent potential hazards in a manufacturing environment.
- Color identification is a requirement of the role
- Ability to safety lift, push, pull, up to 40 lbs
- Base pay range: $22 - $29, 15% hourly shift premium if working the shift
- This is regular/indefinite position, 3 openings available
- Work shift:
Night (Monday to Friday 10PM-7AM); site is transit accessible, but the buses run on a schedule - Need to be legally eligible to work in British Columbia, Canada, full-time for any employer
- Background check applicable as pre-employment
- Training period (minimum 1 month) will be in the afternoon shift (3:30PM-12MN)
