General Accountability:

As a Fire Assay Technician within the Fire Assay department, your main responsibilities are fluxing, fusion and cupellation.

Specific Responsibilities:

Manage crucibles and set up/prepare samples for fusion;

Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools;

Adjust flux based on sample matrices for common type of samples;

Follow up on rush priority workloads;

Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to;

Maintain and organize departmental inventory, such as supplies and chemicals;

Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete;

Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Familiar with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods;

Strong analytical and mechanical skills;

Organized and independently motivated;

Detail oriented;

Able to work independently or as part of a team;

Able to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;

Intermediate English communication skills (written and verbal)
Basic MS Office skills, specifically MS Excel, Word and Outlook;

Safety oriented.

Required Qualifications:

Recognized Diploma or Degree in Science required, with a concentration in Chemistry or Chemical Sciences preferred or completion of the BC Assayers certification program required;

Minimum of one year Fire Assay laboratory work experience in a production oriented environment preferred.

Physical Demands Able to lift up to 50lbs;

Able to work within a hot and dusty environment;

Must be willing to comply with the following H&S requirements:

Be clean shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator);

Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;

Shower before the end of each shift;

Undergo la lead blood test required every 6 months;

Able to stand for a full shift;

Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;

Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;

Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.

Our benefits include:

An estimated hourly pay of $24.02 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
