Position: Volunteer Coordinator (Temporary Full-Time)
PLEA Community Services is currently seeking a  Temporary Full-Time Volunteer Coordinator  for our Vancouver Coastal Youth Services team located in Vancouver, BC. This temporary contract is proposed to start as soon as possible and end upon return of the incumbent. This position requires BCGEU membership.

The Volunteer Coordinator recruits and manages volunteers who work one-on-one with vulnerable children and youth in our mentoring program. The employee will train and support the volunteers, matching them to a suitable participant, and holding them accountable for their assigned duties. The Volunteer Coordinator will also represent PLEA at community events to promote interest and participation in the program.

Hours of Work  The usual hours of work in this position are Monday to Friday based on a flextime scheduling arrangement, including days, evenings and occasional weekends, of 35 working hours per week. Flextime scheduling arrangements allow employees to pick the start/end times of their shifts to meet client needs. Shifts must include the program's core hours of 1PM to 3PM (the daily straight-time maximum is 10 hours).

Education/Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related human/social services field.

Two (2) years of recent related experience working with vulnerable children and youth, as well as their families/caregivers.

What You Will Do

Recruit, screen, interview, select and dismiss volunteers.

Coordinate the referral, intake and orientation of mentees in the program.

Assess volunteers’ skills and abilities and match them to placement opportunities.

Orient, train, develop and evaluate volunteers. Provide advice, guidance and practical assistance to volunteers as required. Facilitate ongoing learning opportunities.

Ensure volunteer personnel files are accurate, complete and in accordance with the program’s policy and procedure manual.

Ensure that records of volunteer placements, hours, requests and concerns are accurately documented. Develop and maintain volunteer program statistics and reports. Comply with all internal and external reporting responsibilities.

Promote volunteering opportunities through a variety of recruitment initiatives.

Oversee and evaluate the volunteer program. Review policies and procedures and recommend changes to their manager.

Coordinate award and recognition program(s) for volunteers. Organize special events for volunteers and mentees.

Act as a liaison between agency staff, volunteers and mentees.

Consult with community groups and professionals to identify trends and needs of the community. Liaise with external partners and represent PLEA at community events to promote interest, participation in and support for the program.

Conduct ongoing risk assessments to ensure the safety of the mentee and volunteer match.

Protect and uphold confidentiality.

Perform other related duties as required.
