Providence Health Care, in partnership with BCIT, is offering fully funded perioperative education for nurses interested in a career in the Operating Room (OR). This includes:
- 100% coverage of tuition and textbooks
- Paid wages at 100% of the posted FTE for eligbile program components.
Upon completing the program, you will receive a Perioperative Nursing Certificate (AORN) and begin working as an OR Registered Nurse l's Hospital.
Please note:
participants in the program must commit to 18 months of full-time sevice with PHC after completing the program.
BCIT Perioperative Program
- Phase 1:
Theory- Pre-requisite courses by distance (Unpaid).Completed online.
- April 1st to June 26th, 2026
- PHC Orientation:
- New Employee and General Nursing Orientation (Paid).Held onsite l's Hospital.
- August 10th to August 14th, 2026
- Phase 2:
Compressed Time Frame (CTF)- Classroom/Clinical (Paid).Delivered at BCIT and St. Paul's Hospital.
- August 24th to December 11th, 2026
As a Staff Nurse, you’ll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assess patients’ physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
- Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families
- Make referrals to resources as needed
- Support fellow healthcare professionals
- Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care’s mission, vision, and values
Education
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Minimum of 1-2 year medical/surgical experience (preferred)
- Not eligible for those who have received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years.
- Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures
- Teamwork skills for interdisciplinary collaboration
- Interpersonal skills for effective interaction with others
Please note:
Short-listed candidates will have to successfully complete an in-person dexterity test which evaluates fine-motor coordination.
