Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Education Seat Training Opportunity, Emergency, Mount St. Joseph

Salary range: CAD $41.42/hr – $55.91/hr.

Hours of work, including start/stop times, days off, work area and work site may be subject to change consistent with operations requirements and applicable provisions of the Collective Agreement and statutes.

Testing may be required. A criminal record check may be required.

About the Opportunity

Are you a Registered Nurse looking to specialize in emergency nursing? Providence Health Care will cover 100% of your tuition and books for this fully funded education and training opportunity. Once trained, you’ll step into a full‑time role in Mount St. Joseph’s Emergency Department, where you’ll gain valuable experience in a high‑impact and supportive environment—without night shifts!

Responsibilities
  • Assess, identify, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care required to assist patients/residents.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and revise the plan of care.
  • Incorporate individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or make referrals to other identified resources.
  • Support other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures.
  • Review patient/resident status through chart review, observation, interviews, questionnaires, collateral info and consultations.
  • Assess patient/resident problems and needs, plan and prioritize nursing care and interventions, develop plan of care using clinical judgement and evidence‑based practice.
  • Provide nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology and PHC standards.
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, re‑assess if goals are not met and modify plan of care accordingly.
  • Record observations and report problems and/or changes in patient/resident condition to designated staff.
  • Provide direct nursing interventions for management of crisis and life‑threatening situations.
  • Document information including assessments, plan of care, patient/resident status and progress and discharge plans in a manual and/or computerized environment.
  • Identify and respond to patient/resident and family learning needs, provide patient educational materials, incorporate individual and group teaching activities into the care plan, make referrals to other resources, lead group patient/family sessions and coach to develop health‑promoting behaviors.
  • Provide direction to other staff such as Care Attendants and LPNs regarding patient/resident care and facilitate teamwork on the units.
  • Participate in nursing orientation and share clinical knowledge with other staff, nursing students and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in and attend in‑service presentations and other educational programs as required.
  • Participate in planning, implementation and evaluation of patient/resident care policies, procedures, education materials and best practices through unit, program, quality improvement activities, committees, etc.
  • Support nursing research by identifying areas for possible clinical projects and participating in research activities.
  • Facilitate discharge plans and liaise with families and community resources.
  • Advocate for patients/residents to protect and promote their rights.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education & Credentials
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum 1–2 years medical/surgical experience (preferred).
  • Applicants who have received Post‑Basic Education Funding from PHC within the past 2 years are not eligible.
  • Must successfully complete the Post‑Basic Education prior to working in the Department; PHC will fund the education (100% tuition and books) and provide wages at 100% of posted FTE.

  • Proficient in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures.
  • Strong teamwork skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Ability to teach and identify patient/family learning needs.
  • Ability to lead patient/family group sessions.
  • Ability to provide clinical direction.

Additional Information

Minimum Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratios (mNPR) determine the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. PHC implements mNPR in alignment with provincial standards to support safe nursing practice and high‑quality patient care.
