Summary

Are you a Registered Nurse looking to specialize in emergency nursing? Providence Health Care will cover 100% of your tuition and books for this fully funded education and training opportunity. Once trained, you’ll step into a full-time role in Mount St. Joseph’s Emergency Department , where you’ll gain valuable experience in a high impact and supportive environment—without night shifts!

  • You will get hands‑on training to work in various areas of the Emergency Department such as triage and trauma, to diversify your nursing practice.

Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Registered Nurse:

  • Assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and revises the plan of care.
  • Incorporates individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or makes referrals to other identified resources.
  • Supports other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures.
Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. At Providence Health Care (PHC), our approach to implementing mNPR reflects our commitment to person-centred, socially just, compassionate care and our dedication to Indigenous cultural safety.

What

You Bring

Education:

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Minimum of 1‑2 year medical/surgical experience (preferred)
  • Not eligible for those who have received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years
  • Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department. PHC will fund Post-Basic Education. Funding will consist of 100% for tuition and books; and wages at rate of 100% of posted FTE

  • Proficient in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures

  • Ability to provide clinical direction
