Summary

St. Paul's Hospital is currently accepting applications for the Critical Care Educational Program. This is an opportunity for Registered Nurses (RNs) to pursue a specialty Certificate through the BCIT Critical Care Program. Providence Health Care provides 100% funding for the tuition, books, and wage. Upon successful completion of the program, you will work in the Critical Care Department (Heart Centre) l’s Hospital.

Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Registered Nurse:

  • Assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and revises the plan of care.
  • Incorporates individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or makes referrals to other identified resources.
  • Supports other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures.

The Registered Nurse works within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the BCCNM Standards of Practice and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Providence Health Care.

BCIT Critical Care Program. Pre-requisite by distance (NSCC 7120, 7150, 7220 - 24 weeks):
Jan 4 – June 20, 2027;
Pre-Requisite Release Days (2 days paid):
April 2 & April 28, 2027; CTF:
June 28 – Sept 17, 2027. Dates are approx, set by BCIT. # of seats filled is undetermined.

Education and Experience
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Eligibility for Post‑Basic Education is open to applicant(s) with a minimum of 1‑2 year medical/surgical experience (2 years preferred) and who have not received Post‑Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years. Applicants must successfully complete the Post‑Basic Education prior to working in the Department.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
