The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr to CAD $55.91/Hr.
Job SummaryRegistered Nurse in Emergency at Vancouver General Hospital. You will provide emergency nursing to patients of all ages presenting with a wide variety of symptoms within an uncontrolled environment and to unique patient populations such as victims of sexual assault.
As a triage nurse, you will assess patient needs and prioritize care requirements often with limited information.
As a member of the emergency response team, you will stabilize and resuscitate multi-trauma victims, prepare for and respond to disaster situations, and enhance the quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family.
Consult, confer, and collaborate with other healthcare providers and demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice. Maintain and advance clinical competence, and participate in designated hospital committees, teams, and approved research projects as assigned.
About Vancouver General Hospital Emergency DepartmentThe ED sees over 93,000 patients a year and is a Level 1 Trauma Centre with 24/7 access for patients requiring care for trauma, interventional cardiology, stroke, and other specialty areas of care.
With 70+ patient care spaces, the ED is divided into acute care, trauma, mental health, and lower‑acuity zones, offering a dynamic, fast‑paced environment for clinicians to grow and make an impact every shift.
Qualifications- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of a recognized advanced program in emergency care nursing or two (2) years’ recent, related experience.
- Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient/family centred model of care.
- Broad knowledge of BCCNM's standards for nursing practice.
- Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to a designated patient group.
- Ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to patient/family priorities.
- Proficiency in interviewing and assessment skills.
- Ability to assess patient responses to care and respond appropriately.
- Experience in the management of trauma in an emergency setting.
- Ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem‑solve, set priorities, and handle conflict.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to deal effectively with patients, families, coworkers, physicians, other health‑care staff, and external agencies.
- Skill in counseling and teaching patients and families based on their priorities.
- Leadership and ability to provide direction.
- Skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
- Proficiency in CPR techniques.
- Ability to operate related equipment and applicable software applications.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
