Minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs)
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) participates in the provincial implementation of mNPRs to enhance nursing practice and strengthen quality of care. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit.
SalarySalary range: CAD $41.42/hr–$55.91/hr.

Using a best practices approach, this role provides nursing care to assigned patients/clients working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary care team. The RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates client care, participates in discharge planning, functions as a client advocate, teaches clients and families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness, enhances quality of life from the client/family perspective, documents care, responds to incidents per policies, consults and collaborates with other health care providers, maintains and advances clinical competence, and participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated client group.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement care plans.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem‑solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing).
- Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively including working collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients and their families.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence.
- Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
- Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including effective use of a computerized client care information system.
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provisions of the collective agreement and applicable statutes.
