Alberni office – Hybrid (Hybrid working is an option in line with FNHA’s flex work policy). Please note, this role will be relocating to our new office building in North Vancouver on Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN) land, south of Mount Seymour Parkway in Spring 2027.

About the role

The Clinical TB Nurse Consultant provides specialized tuberculosis (TB) support to First Nations communities on-reserve across BC, partnering closely with Community Health Nurses to deliver and coordinate TB programs, including Directly Observed Therapy for active and latent TB. This role combines clinical expertise with relationship-based practice, supporting consistency in TB prevention and response by offering real-time guidance during case management, screening, contact investigation, and education.

A trusted advisor and educator, the Consultant trains and mentors nursing staff and DOT workers, contributes to nursing education and guidelines, and supports community-based surveillance initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical guidance and support for TB case management, screening, treatment planning, contact tracing, and follow-up in alignment with current clinical guidelines.
  • Mentoring and training nurses and DOT workers in TB care.
  • Collaborating with community health teams and nursing leaders to implement program strategies.
  • Contributing to the development of nursing education, guidelines, and community-based surveillance initiatives.
  • Applying a culturally grounded, holistic approach to support Indigenous worldviews and culturally safe care across diverse First Nations communities.
  • Making independent, critical decisions and exercising sound judgment in a flexible and autonomous environment.
About you

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Education: Bachelor of Nursing with a community health component plus two (2) years of experience in community TB health programming and experience working with First Nations people, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Occupational certification: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Experience: Experience with database entry systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols, cultural traditions and practices in client First Nations communities, and traditional/alternative/complementary healing practices.
  • Other: Strong relationship-building, mentorship, and partnership skills; ability to coach peers through complex clinical and programmatic challenges.
Preferred experience

Experience has been gained in roles such as Public Health Nurse Consultant, Communicable Disease Nurse Specialist, or Nurse Educator/Practice Consultant (Public Health).
