Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

Salary Details

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr.

- CAD $55.91/Hr.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Eligibility for the post‑basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately two years recent acute medical/surgical experience upon critical care program full‑time start date.

BCIT Critical Care Nursing Specialty Program

Online Theory (if required):
Sept. 14, 2026 – Mar. 14, 2027

2 BCIT Workshop Days (Paid):
Dec. 9, 2026 & Jan. 21, 2027

Full‑time training at BCIT & practicum locations:
Mar. 30, 2027 – June 25, 2027


* Course dates will be modified based on previous courses completed, VCH only funds for required courses.

Applicants must successfully complete the post‑basic training education prior to working in the Department.

Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.

This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete. In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Job Summary

Apply now to join the Cardiac Surgery ICU as a Registered Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Within the context of a client and family centric care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses, code of ethics and the established mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences, you will provide nursing care to high‑risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life‑support equipment, and/or clients in post‑anaesthetic recovery, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

You will enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family, consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care givers, demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice, maintain and advance clinical competence, and participate on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
