Providence Health Care (PHC) is seeking an exceptional Nurse Practitioner leader to serve as Department Head of Nurse Practitioners
. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of Nurse Practitioner practice across the organization by providing strategic direction, fostering clinical excellence, and advancing a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability. As the leader of the Department of Nurse Practitioners at Providence Health Care (PHC), you will champion professional practice, education, research, and quality improvement while partnering with senior leaders, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, patient and family-centred care.

Reporting to the Vice President, Medical Affairs (for administrative and professional matters related to the Department members’ status as Medical Staff) and the Vice President Chief of People, Nursing and Health Professions Officer (for administrative and professional matters related to the professional practice of the members of the Department of Nurse Practitioners), and working in partnership with the Executive Director, Professional Practice as well as with Operational Program leaders, corporate staff, and community partners throughout PHC.

The NP Department Head is responsible for:

  • Managing NP professional practice, overseeing fiscal management, professional practice standards, human resource management of NP staff, education and mentorship within the department
  • Ensuring all Nurse Practitioners are appropriately credentialed and comply with regulatory and organizational policies
  • Managing academic, educational, and research responsibilities in accordance with the Master Affiliation Agreement between Providence Health Care and the University of British Columbia
  • Representing PHC Nurse Practitioner Department on internal and external committees and meetings, including organization-wide and provincial forums

The NP Department Head maintains their clinical practice in accordance with the Practice hours requirements set out by the BC College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM) and holds active or provisional medical staff privileges under the PHC Medical Staff Rules and Bylaws.

What You Bring

Education, Training and

Experience:

  • Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner including progressive clinical practice, education, research, and project management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Leadership and management training or demonstrated willingness to undergo same in the very near future.
  • Eligible for a joint appointment with the University of British Columbia, under the terms of the Master Affiliation Agreement between Providence Health Care and the University of British Columbia.

  • Provides timely, strategic consultation utilizing effective targeted communication strategies to influence and facilitate effective decision making within the medical by-laws framework.
