Contract Length: Approximately May – August 2026

Overview

Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes provides children and youth affected by cancer with an unforgettable overnight summer camp experience in a medically supervised, safe and supportive environment. The Waterfront Program Leader lives on‑site at Camp Goodtimes hosted by UBC’s Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, near Maple Ridge, BC, for the first five weeks of the contract and then at Camp Pringle, Shawnigan Lake, BC for the last two weeks.

The role works with the Waterfront Supervisor, summer staff team and volunteer team to ensure a safe, fun, and inclusive waterfront experience.

Commitment
  • May 9, June 6, 7, 23, 24 – In‑person training in Vancouver or at camp.
  • June 28 – August 2, 2026 – On‑site living at camp for six sessions (Loon Lake Lodge & Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge) with at least 24 hours off each week. Meals and accommodation included.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Ensure the safety of all campers, volunteers, and staff at the waterfront during all swimming and boating activities.
  • Facilitate camper‑focused swimming and boating activities when required.
  • Collaborate with other waterfront staff to be familiar with Camp Goodtimes waterfront emergency procedures.
  • Assist in facilitating evening and all‑camp programs when the waterfront is not in use.
  • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in aquatics, camping, youth recreation, and/or experiential education.
  • Experience working with populations with a range of accessibility needs.
  • Ability to take initiative, problem‑solve, and work as a team member.
  • Understanding of cancer diagnosis and its physiological, social and emotional impact or a willingness to learn.
  • National Lifeguard (NL) credential current within two years.
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor current within two years (asset).
  • Standard First Aid and CPR‑C current.
  • Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) (asset).
  • Criminal Record Search including vulnerable sector check (once hired).
  • Proof of up‑to‑date childhood immunizations.
  • Proof of a primary series and booster of COVID‑19 vaccines within 12 months of the camp start date.
  • English required;
    French/Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
