We are recruiting for Two (2) vacancies. This is an 8-month sessional (seasonal) appointment. Subsequent appointments into terms of approximately 6 months and up to 9 months are expected to occur on an annual basis.

Job Responsibilities- Mows lawn and field areas using a riding mower.
- Removes leaves and other debris from fields, walkways and perimeter landscape.
- Prepares soil generally by using standard tools and equipment such as rakes, shovels, hoes, pitch and digging forks, rototillers, etc.
- Puts plants, trees and bushes in designated locations.
- Waters and distributes fertilizers to plants, trees, bushes, lawns, gardens, etc.
- Moves soil, mulch, plants, debris, fertilizers, supplies, tools, equipment and other materials to storage or various locations.
- Performs lawn installation, including moving and putting down turf and distributing seed.
- Cuts and bucks plants, small tree branches using pruners, line/brush trimmers and operates brush chipper for mulching.
- Moves rocks, gravel and mulch to install and repair pathways and other related garden structures.
- Digs, moves, assembles and performs minor repairs of equipment.
- Operates standard power equipment, such as walk behind mowers, line trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, and lawn edgers to perform soft/hard landscape activities.
- Carries out routine minor maintenance on small equipment and reports faulty equipment to the appropriate staff.
- May be required to drive a truck and use specialty equipment, such as large chain saws, power spraying equipment, riding mowers, tractors, bobcat, high lift, tree climbing equipment, asphalt roller and other equipment needed for specialized tasks.
- Acquires materials and equipment as required for the job in coordination with the Head Groundsperson.
- Works in a correct and safe manner and follows established policies and procedures.
- Acts upon trouble calls as directed by supervisory staff.
- Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.
The position will be under the direct supervision of the Head Groundsperson and failure to follow directions or making inappropriate decisions may result in unsafe playing conditions, service delays and/or costs.
SupervisionSupervision Received Works under general supervision from the Head Groundskeeper from written or oral instructions, blue prints, drawings and work orders.
Supervision Given None.
Minimum QualificationsSecondary school education and/or completion of high school, valid BC driver’s license or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Ability to follow policies, procedures, and instructions. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Ability to provide quality service to customers in a courteous, patient manner. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships. Ability to work with gardening tools and equipment.
