Dr. Andrea Reid, Centre for Indigenous Fisheries (CIF), Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries (IOF), University of British Columbia (UBC), is seeking to hire a research associate to serve as delegate principal investigator, focussing dually on CIF operations and the study of Indigenous experiences with and perspectives on sea lamprey control in the Laurentian Great Lakes.
Qualified applicants will have a PhD in oceans and fisheries or related field. The successful candidate will have extensive experience (4+ years) in designing, implementing, analyzing and translating Indigenous community-based research, with a particular focus on social-ecological justice in aquatic contexts. Experience with Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing and the ability to apply that understanding in all aspects of the work is essential.
Furthermore, the candidate must have demonstrated proficiency with transcription software (e.g., Trint), as well as qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo).
A high level of cultural competency and sensitivity is necessary in this position, as any insensitive actions could jeopardize our longstanding research relationships with the Indigenous communities we work with and for.
