Job SummaryThis is a Research Assistant/ Technician 2 position in the Song Lab.
Organizational StatusThe technician will report to the PI, Dr. Liang Song.
Work PerformedMain duties include maintenance of laboratory equipment and carrying out molecular biology experiments.
Equipment maintenance: help maintain equipment purchased on CFI JELF and perform tests and preventative measures. Coordinate software updates, repairs, and replacement with vendors and suppliers.
Molecular experiments: carry out molecular cloning and transformation of tomato according to established protocols. Performs associated plant work in growth chambers and UBC greenhouse. Document experimental record.
Prepare and/or maintain media, buffer, reagents, solutions, cultures and related material for the molecular biology assays.
Carries out any other related duties as necessary in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of the job.
All work being done will be under close supervision by the PI, Dr. Liang Song, and all decisions about experimental procedures will be made in cohort with the PI, Dr. Liang Song.
Supervision ReceivedData analysis and design of statistical workflow to be conducted independently following consultation with Principal Investigator on project goals and deliverables.

Minimum QualificationsHigh school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
