Job Description & How to Apply Below

Description:

The Visiting Scientist Program is a cost-reimbursement support for established researchers in astroparticle physics to visit a host institution for collaborative work with a new research group for a duration ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months for postdoctoral fellows, and from 2 weeks to 12 months for faculty and staff scientists. The program aims to mobilize Canadian research talent to international research organizations/institutions and bring international researchers to Canada.

Themaximumawardis $16,000 CDN .

Eligibility:

The Visiting Scientist to be supported must have completed a PhD and be an established scientist or engineer working in astroparticle physics topics relevant to the Canadian research community. The proposed research visit must also be aligned with the objectives of the McDonald Institute. Applications are open to full‑time astroparticle physics researchers authorized to manage research funds in a Tri‑Council eligible post‑secondary institution in Canada, seeking either:
1) partial financial support for a research‑driven working exchange visit anywhere in the world with an aggregate duration between 2 weeks and 12 months; or
2) partial financial support to host an international colleague’s research visit in Canada with an aggregate duration between 2 weeks and 12 months; or
3) partial financial support to a postdoctoral researcher under their supervision for an off‑site visit with an aggregate duration of between 2 weeks and 3 months.

How it Works:

Applications must be submitted with a letter of endorsement from the host institution for the exchange. The program will cover up to $16,000 of the costs associated with the visit. A budget estimation form must be completed as part of the application. Applications requesting retroactive coverage are not eligible. Funds will be distributed through a cost-recovery model upon receiving compliant invoices.

Award letters will be made only to faculty or staff scientists with Tri‑Council eligible research accounts at a Canadian post‑secondary institution. All international applicants and all domestic postdoctoral applicants require a Tri‑Council eligible lead applicant who will sign the application and will be responsible for monitoring compliance with program guide lines. Domestic postdoctoral applicants will also need a letter of acknowledgement from their primary faculty supervisor if the supervisor is not acting as the lead applicant.

Timelines:

Call for application opens:
March 01, 2026

Applications will be reviewed immediately, and a notice of decision will be released not later than 30 days after receipt of an application. Award letters will be issued until funds are allocated, at which point the call for proposals will close.
