The Stigma and Resilience among Vulnerable Youth Centre (SARAVYC) is a research centre within UBC’s School of Nursing. The team has researchers and community partners advancing research to improve the lives of 2
SLGBTQ+ and other marginalized youth. The successful candidate will have a background in research and join a productive multi-disciplinary, mixed-methods research group with a strong commitment to applied research that influences policy, practice, and health.
The candidate will work under the direction of the Executive Director, the Managing Director to undertake the following tasks:
- Assist with recruitment of 2
SLGBTQ+ youth, migrant youth and parents. - Monitor and follow-up promptly with potential participants who complete a screener questionnaire indicating their interest in participating in the study. Consent participants and enroll participants in the study.
- Create and maintain research records, including recruitment tracking documents.
- Oversee research activities, progress and implementation of study procedures
- Support team in conducting data collection using Qualtrics.
- Literature reviews
- Analysis of quantitative data using SPSS.
- Assists in the creation of research knowledge translation products related to the project (website content, social media, newsletters, posters, proof reading reports and manuscripts, etc.)
- Communicate regularly with team members and supervisors, including bi-weekly updates and progress reports of projects; attend staff meetings and report on progress
- Other activities supporting SARAVYC research projects as required
The Managing Director and Executive Director at UBC will monitor the work of the incumbent. Errors or incorrect decisions could potentially result in delays in completing the project or seriously compromise the quality of the research. In addition, if established protocols related to privacy, confidentiality, and safety are not followed, confidentiality of participants sensitive information could be breached.
SupervisionSupervision Received The Principal Investigator Dr. Elizabeth Saewyc, and Centre’s managing director, Monica Rana will provide supervision.

Working ConditionThe position will primarily be located at the School of Nursing research office at UBC-Vancouver campus so that the candidate can work closely with the other members of the research team as well as access shared data storage services.
Minimum QualificationsHigh school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
