Job Summary

The Projects Coordinator, Research (PC) provides technical expertise and project management for a lab that specializes in community‑centred, health services research and knowledge translation advance equity, quality, and respect in perinatal services. The PC will be responsible for coordination of research and knowledge implementation projects in the area of reproductive health and justice. The Projects Coordinator will support the PI and Research Associate by implementing best practices for organization and management of research project activities, data management, data analysis, and data integrity at the Birth Place Lab (BPL).

The PC will support the Equity Strategist for activities by implementing best practices for equity inclusive excellence in BPL research and KT activities, including community engagement, participatory action research, and knowledge translation.

The PC interacts and liaises with academic and community‑based researchers, policy makers, administrators, community partners, external research partners, Division of Midwifery faculty and staff, UBC units (such as Research Services and Ethics), Women's Health Research Institute, or other key stakeholders globally.

Responsibilities
  • Implement strategies and initiatives to expand BPL capacity for equity informed, participatory action research based on the priorities of the Principal Investigator and the research program.
  • Oversee research project plans and activities, oversee and/or enact communications with community partners, trainees, and research partners; organize meetings related to the main project and sub‑projects.
  • Enact data management and data sharing protocols, participate in development of grants, project reports, manuscripts and presentations; contribute to community‑facing data display.
  • Support student research assistants and scholars; track timelines and deliverables, and other research administration activities.
  • In consultation with PI and community leadership, liaise with community‑based research partners to plan, implement, and coordinate study protocols to meet deliverables.
  • Manage communications, timelines, meetings, and project work plans in collaboration with the BPL team, community partners, and in accordance with principles of community based participatory research.
  • Ensure that ethical requirements, UBC ORS, OCAP and equity principles, and requirements of external research sites are met.
  • Collaborate with other BPL staff to oversee ongoing project management, planning, facilitation and evaluation of project activities.
  • Support PI and KT Specialists with effective and efficient coordination of KT events and implementation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with external funding grants and the policies and agreements with the University of British Columbia.
  • Maintain research project records and generate mid‑term and end‑of‑term reports for funders.
  • Create and coordinate project plans with external research and implementation partners.
  • Manage and update contacts and project status for research collaborators, trainees, and early career scholars, including teams that use the measures and outputs of the lab communication.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from Community Partners, media, and the general public about the research, tools, knowledge translation events, and implementation activities.
  • Coordinate documentation and communication related to exploratory meetings with external research partner organizations and ongoing community Steering Council meetings.
  • Support Equity Strategist to engage key community partners and NGOs that serve racialized, marginalized, underrepresented, and Indigenous childbearing populations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Regional Recruitment Coordinators, and Community Leads at each data collection and/or implementation location.
  • Coordinate training events that support engagement of community members in research (ethics, data management, analysis, interpretation, knowledge translation development).
