Job Summary
The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a Research Associate at 100% FTE to join the Dr. Filip Van Petegem Laboratory.
The expected salary for this position is $76,128.
Responsibilities- Purifying ion channels for structural and biophysical studies
- Performing chromatography for protein purification
- Preparing cryo-EM grids
- Collecting high-resolution cryo-EM datasets
- Processing cryo-EM data for 3D reconstruction
- Building and refining structural models
- Conducting electrophysiology experiments
- Quantifying protein–protein and protein–ligand interactions
- Optionally applying X‑ray crystallography techniques
- Training junior lab members
- Attending lab meetings
- Performing other job-related duties as required
The successful candidate will be expected to have a Ph.D in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology or a related life sciences field, and have previous years' experience as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
- Proven ability to manage several projects
- Excellent communication skills, including oral presentation at lab meetings and international conferences
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced and demanding team environment
- Has the drive and enthusiasm to lead and work as a member of a team
