The Department of Forest Resources Management, UBC-Vancouver campus seeks a full-time
** Research Associate
** to undertake research into the costs associated with wildfire across Canada.

Responsibilities include:

* undertaking a literature review on what costs have been associated with wildfire, with a focus on Canada;
* identifying gaps, existing datasets and current researchers;
* developing a research plan to address those gaps, including identifying and coordinating research approaches, including opportunities for additional research funding;
* preparing the results of this research for a national report on the cost of wildfire, and any associated peer-reviewed articles as appropriate; and
* developing and supporting communication around the research and final report.
** Qualifications required
** Candidates must have a graduate degree and post-graduate research experience in the fields of wildfire, including risk mitigation, and fire suppression. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in working on wildfire-related topics with different sectors and stakeholders, especially rural communities. Candidates should show the ability to publish and have good knowledge of social science methods and techniques. Other requirements for successful applicants include excellent oral communication skills, the ability to work in a dynamic research team, and the ability to work on a project with defined milestones and timelines.

Anticipated start date will be September 1, 2026 for two years with possibility of extension subject to grant funding availability.
