STEMCELL Technologies is seeking a Scientist, Cell Line Development, to be the technical lead for our induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) Platform laboratory, providing expert scientific leadership in designing gene editing strategies, engineered cell line characterization, and scalable differentiation workflows. In this role, you will translate genome editing and differentiation protocols into reproducible processes for customer delivery and technology transfer. The position resolves complex scientific challenges, defines technical acceptance criteria, and establishes key processes and documentation.
By bridging experimental design with operational scalability, the role ensures cell products meet target quality, yield, and commercial specifications.
- Designs and develops iPSC gene editing strategies, cell line characterization plans, and scientific acceptance criteria for customer projects and commercial cell line development
- Leads experimental development of differentiation and scale-up processes, rigorously evaluating reproducibility, yield, cell quality, and suitability for process transfer
- Designs custom differentiation projects aligned with customer specifications and interprets complex experimental data to guide ongoing platform development
- Resolves complex technical problems and establishes SOPs, characterization protocols, and technology transfer packages in coordination with internal teams
- Provides scientific guidance to laboratory Research Associates and Senior Research Associates, delivering technical input for project scopes, reports, and customer discussions led by the Senior iPSC Platform Partner
- Typically requires a Doctorate (PhD) in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences discipline with 2-5 years of relevant experience (or a Master's Degree with 4-8 years of experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with 6-10 years of experience)
- Broad scientific knowledge and expertise in iPSC gene editing design, CRISPR/gene-targeting technologies, and single-cell cloning
- In-depth knowledge of directed stem cell differentiation workflows, scale-up process development, cell line characterization methods, and technology transfer principles
- Proven track record of conducting complex analyses to investigate root causes, resolve ambiguous experimental outcomes, and implement innovative scientific solutions
- Excellent communicational skills and strong collaborative ability to work and present cross-functionally across R&D, Quality, Product Management, and external technical teams
