An independent lumber company built on strong relationships, integrity, and a commitment to doing business the right way. They take pride in building long-term partnerships with our customers and suppliers while creating a supportive, team-oriented environment for our employees. As a tight-knit and hands-on organization, they value hard work, accountability, collaboration, and a willingness to learn. Our people are given the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of the business, take on new responsibilities, and grow with the company.

Responsibilities
  • Learn the company’s internal systems, database, products, processes, and back-office operations from the ground up.
  • Coordinate freight by contacting carriers and dispatchers to schedule trucks and ensure shipments move as planned.
  • Track booked trucks and shipments, proactively identifying delays or issues and communicating updates to the appropriate parties.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain shipping and logistics paperwork, ensuring information is complete and accurate.
  • Communicate regularly with freight carriers, dispatchers, suppliers, customers, and internal team members by phone and email.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day logistics issues and follow through until they are resolved.
  • Support team members with operational and administrative tasks as required in a small, collaborative environment.
  • Develop a strong understanding of lumber products, including different products, grades, applications, and customer requirements.
  • Progress into sales responsibilities as knowledge of the business, products, and industry develops.
  • Support the sales team by assisting with existing customer accounts and providing coverage when required.
  • Re-engage existing or inactive customer accounts and develop opportunities for ongoing business.
  • Identify and prospect new customers through outbound outreach and cold calling.
  • Build and manage an individual customer base over time, developing long-term relationships and repeat business.
  • Take increasing ownership of customer relationships and sales activities as experience and product knowledge grow.
  • Proactively identify where help is needed and contribute beyond assigned responsibilities without waiting to be asked.
Qualifications
  • Entry-level or early-career candidate who is interested in developing a long-term career in logistics and sales.
  • Previous lumber industry experience is an asset but is not required.
  • Previous logistics, transportation, freight coordination, customer service, or related experience is an asset but not required.
  • No expectation of being a logistics expert; the company is prepared to train the right individual from the ground up.
  • High level of ethics, honesty, integrity, and reliability.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Self-starter who recognizes what needs to be done and takes initiative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with confidence communicating by phone and email.
  • Friendly, professional, and comfortable building relationships with customers, suppliers, carriers, and coworkers.
  • Resilient and comfortable handling rejection, particularly when progressing into cold calling and new business development.
  • Strong attention to detail when handling shipment information, databases, and paperwork.
  • Organized and capable of keeping track of multiple shipments, priorities, and follow-ups simultaneously.
  • Comfortable solving problems and adapting when shipments or schedules do not go according to plan.
  • Team-oriented and willing to step outside defined responsibilities to help the broader team succeed.
  • Interested in learning the technical side of lumber products and understanding how different products and grades meet customer needs.
  • Motivated to progress from logistics and operations into a customer-facing sales position.
  • Character, attitude, and potential are valued more highly than direct industry experience.
