Operations Coordinator
Location:
Vancouver Convention Centre, BC Pavilion Corporation (Pav Co).
Position type:
Casual. This role operates on a compressed 4‑day work week of 9‑hour shifts covering all 24/7/365 hours in the Services Operations Centre (SOC).
- Monitor CCTV, access control, fire panel and various alarms including fire, intrusion and duress.
- Identify potential threats to safety and security and coordinate appropriate response.
- Oversee safety & security of the building and surrounding area, including monitoring suspicious or forbidden activities and deploying security and/or VPD as required.
- Manage access control via cameras, motion detectors, door alarms and SiPass card system ensuring documentation and storage of footage.
- Coordinate resources during emergency response incidents, dispatching appropriate VCC staff and communicating with first responders.
- Conduct routine security patrols to prevent theft, vandalism and fire, taking appropriate action when incidents are discovered.
- Support information handling and tracking of daily operations, deliveries, lost & found, loading bays, lift booking, onsite parking, and FSRs.
- Maintain current knowledge of all daily venue operations to provide operational service excellence to stakeholders, identifying process improvements and policy updates.
- Maintain knowledge of events and daily event activities.
- Monitor and respond to multiple radio channels simultaneously.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of resources in the Momentus library.
- Actively contribute and collaborate in projects to improve operational process and strengthen building security.
- Conduct building patrols when operational coverage allows for situational awareness.
- Suggest improvements to surveillance and operational delivery.
- Minimum high school diploma.
- 1–3 years of security operations centre training and experience preferred.
- Valid BC Security Worker License with a Security Guard license type preferred.
- Training in system monitoring, emergency response, guest services, reception and telephone/radio dispatch in fast‑paced environments an asset.
- Experience with CCTV and electronic access control systems considered an asset.
- Sound working knowledge of standard software applications including Momentus, Microsoft Office, iPads, iPhones, and cloud‑based software.
- Good understanding of security operations including CCTV, Access Control and Life Safety Systems.
- Working knowledge of the Criminal Code, Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and building regulations.
- Strong communication skills, able to clearly express ideas, thoughts and concepts verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize conflicting requirements timely.
- Ability to identify issues, analyze situations and make appropriate independent decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment and work independently.
Hourly rate $27.00 with an 8% addition per paycheck in lieu of vacation pay. Compressed 4‑day work week of 9‑hour shifts.
