Senior Underwriter – Non‑Standard Personal Lines Team

Location:

Vancouver, Langley or Salmon Arm, BC. This is a hybrid position.

• Perform risk analysis using internal and external data resources for quoting, negotiating and authorizing the acceptance of moderate to high complexity risks.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders; attend industry seminars and networking events as necessary.
• Negotiate coverage and price within the company's guidelines and delegated authority parameters.
• Develop and support professional business partnerships with brokers; respond promptly to inquiries and resolve issues proactively.
• Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
• Manage, strengthen and grow a book of profitable business.
• Understand underwriting guidelines and accept, decline, endorse, renew or cancel moderate to high‑risk policies within authority level.
• Maintain service level agreements with brokerages.
• Train and mentor junior staff.
• Plan and conduct broker visits and attend company events independently.
• Understand market trends and negotiation dynamics.

• Minimum 4+ years of personal underwriting experience.
• Hold or qualify for a Level 2 broker license within 90 days.
• Advanced understanding of personal lines underwriting theory and ability to apply it in daily practice.
• Excellent relationship building and customer service skills.
• Strong decision‑making ability and effective, timely judgment.
• Goal‑oriented; demonstrates ability to pursue and achieve production targets.
• Strategic thinker; sets priorities and implements plans in line with long‑term organizational interest.
• Positive leadership; influences team members and directs towards shared goals.
• Mentorship experience with less‑experienced team members.
• Current pursuit of CIP or CAIB designation is a plus.
• Working knowledge of MS Office.
