About Our Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Trauma Counsellor with a passion for supporting children, youth and families who have experienced trauma, to join our SAIP (Sexual Abuse Intervention Program) counselling and Trauma Services team. Trauma Counsellors in our SAIP Program provide counselling (both individual and group) for children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse and other experiences of trauma.
Counsellors also participate in program administration by attending to intake, assessment, treatment, referrals, parenting support and education, and consultation and collaboration with other service providers. Our Trauma Counsellors support clients in their healing journeys from a feminist, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, intersectional lens.
Three weeks’ vacation for full-time staff
* entitlement increases from there
Three paid household leave days a year
* Two paid Wellness Days a year
Two and a half paid Agency days for full-time staff
* Five paid days for education leave/year
* One paid Moving Day/year
Subsidized professional association annual dues (if applicable)

Work Hours:
17.5 per week (Part-time)
Location:
Vancouver Office (1638 E Broadway) with the possibility of working Hybrid (in office, with the community, and home)

What do you need to succeed?
Education, Training, Experience
Master’s degree in counselling psychology or equivalent degree (MA, M.Ed, MSW) & registration with a professional body (BCACC, BC College of Social Workers)
A minimum of 3 years of relevant counselling experience working with children, youth and families who have experienced trauma
Training in trauma-informed counselling, somatic approaches, parts-work, expressive-arts-based interventions and play therapy
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Solid understanding and application of best practices in trauma counselling for individual and group work with children, youth and families
Experience providing parent/caregiver support and psycho-education to parents/caregivers on child development and the impacts of trauma on neurobiology and attachment
Knowledge, skills and experience in working with a diverse client population who have been impacted by poverty, abuse, neglect, addiction, mental health issues
