About Our Opportunity

The Directions Youth Outreach program promotes safer, healthier alternatives for youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The role involves working with at‑risk, homeless, and street‑entreched youth under 25, prioritizing those 18 and under, to address addiction, intellectual, emotional, social challenges, mental health issues, concurrent issues, and sexual exploitation. With support from program management, the Supervisor plans, develops, implements, and oversees day‑to‑day program operations.

The position supports the Agency’s diversity and inclusion goals.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with youth, providing counseling and connecting them to services.

• Plan, develop, and implement program activities and policies.

• Supervise staff and volunteers, including recruitment, training, and performance management.

• Manage conflict situations, mediate disputes, and use non‑violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.

• Maintain confidentiality and develop satisfactory relationships with the public, agencies, and other stakeholders.

• Coordinate and participate in community outreach and partner with external agencies.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of community, social, and health resources and systemic issues affecting low‑income and marginalized populations.
  • Knowledge of substance misuse, sexual exploitation, adolescent development, and challenges of chemically dependent individuals; basic understanding of behavioral management.
  • Knowledge of and belief in the Harm Reduction model.
  • Knowledge of program management and development procedures.
  • Ability to manage teams of staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to handle conflict, mediate, manage aggression, and apply non‑violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain work relationships with the public and other employees, maintain confidentiality, and operate tactfully with staff, volunteers, public and other agencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Four years’ experience working with homeless and/or at‑risk youth, plus two years supervisory experience.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid and Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license (abstract required).

Position Details

Work hours:

37.5 hours per week (Full‑time), Monday to Friday; evenings and weekends may be required.

Salary:
Grade 11 Step 1 ($33.01 per hour).

Location:

Downtown Vancouver.

Pension:
Municipal Pension Plan enrollment for eligible employees.
