Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided resources for children, families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community. We support youth under 25 to get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance use and strive to create spaces and connections with youth facing challenges of street life, substance use, mental health concerns, and disconnection from their communities.
Our after hours program operates between midnight and 8:00am, seven days a week including holidays. This full-time, 37.5 hours/week position reports to the Assistant Manager, Directions Youth Service Centre. The supervisor will handle scheduling and timecard management of their team and provide supervision and floor support to front-line staff, students, and unhoused, street-involved youth.
- Coordinate the daily program functions of the After Hours Addictions Response Program.
- Provide supervision and support on the floor to front-line staff and students.
- Work directly with unhoused, street-involved youth.
- Schedule and manage timecards for the team.
- Promote safer, healthier alternatives for youth and assist in their transition from street to residence where possible.
- Provide referral information to eligible and ineligible clients.
- Bachelors degree in related human/social services field and/or a combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five years of experience working with youth, preferably unhoused, street-involved, and/or substance use.
- Current First Aid Certificate, Naloxone Training, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training are assets (training provided if necessary).
- Applicants with personal experience with addiction or street involvement are encouraged to apply.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of community, social and health resources.
- Knowledge of systemic issues affecting low-income and marginalized people.
- Knowledge of substance use, adolescent development, and behavioral management basics.
- Basic knowledge of mental health issues and treatment.
- Ability to observe and recognize change in clients and maintain professional boundaries.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients and work with conflict situations using non-violent crisis intervention.
- Proficient verbal and written communication; ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse population and with co-workers, the public, and other agencies.
- Basic computer literacy and physical ability to carry out duties.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is an asset (abstract submission required).
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.

Tuesday-Saturday, 11:30pm-7:30am (37.5 hours/week) - Location:
1138 Burrard Street, Vancouver BC (in office) - Salary: GS 11 Step 1 ($33.01)
