Summer Internship - Maintenance/Cook

Purpose: These summer internship positions are funded under the Canada Summer jobs program. Multiple internship positions are available in functions of maintenance and apprentice cook. To meet the site management needs at the affordable housing community and to serve our tenant population both practically and personally to provide inclusion, community and a sense of belonging while upholding the mission, vision and values of More Than A Roof.
Report to:
Building Manager/Supervisor
Full Time: 35 hours/week
Duration: 8 weeks contract over the summer
Duties & Responsibilities Maintenance internship roles- Assist Maintenance managers in repairs, maintenance of units and building upkeep
- Janitorial responsibilities
- Maintenance records and assist in maintenance activities
- Assist in our Community kitchen, food prep
- Assist with events related meal planning and kitchen assistance
- Preference will be given to those currently pursuing a culinary program
Multiple positions are available at various downtown Vancouver locations.
These are Canada Summer Jobs funded positions. Candidates must qualify under below criteria to be eligible to participate -
Eligibility Criteria- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
MTR employees work closely with members in the vulnerable sector, both within our client base and with the general public. There may be exposure to abuse (verbal or physical), encounters with individuals in unsanitary conditions, and interactions with individuals experiencing emotional issues or vicarious trauma.
