The Sanctuary Housing Case Manager assists women who enter the Sanctuary Transitional Housing Program to obtain needed services and support. She works with program tenants individually in order to increase the likelihood of success for recovery and/or independent living while ensuring adherence to program guidelines and policies. She performs program tenant’s assessments to gather information and identify areas of concern, helps her program tenants to develop plans for next steps, and connects them with appropriate resources.
She may advocate on their behalf with government agencies or external service providers. The Case Manager takes a faith-based approach, which includes ministering to these women, forming relationships, loving them, praying, declaring the good news of Jesus Christ and making disciples. She assists them with practical needs, including referrals for recovery, program involvement and housing.
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week).
Salary Range: $28.96 to $31.64 per hour.

- Assist and encourage program tenants in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and preparing a case plan for their next steps (housing, employment, addiction services, life skills, health, education or other case-specific needs) and refer them to the appropriate community resources.
- Provide support, care, direct consultation, and spiritual guidance to program tenants that reside in housing facilities, including referrals to external services by providing appropriate support for their emotional needs and practical requests.
- Advocate for guests, providing needs assessments, coaching, skills training and crisis management. Cultivate community and utilize community resources and partnerships with community contacts, churches and faith-based organizations.
- Assist with intake process and orient new participants to the Sanctuary Transitional Housing Program.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and development.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Respond to hazardous and suspicious activities, all incidents, accidents or medical emergencies, and report them to the appropriate authority. Notify emergency services when urgent assistance is needed.
- Take an active role in proactively and reactively defusing aggressive situations, monitor sobriety of participants and visitors, and report to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.
- Mature individual, committed to UGM’s Mission Statement, Core Values and Statement of Faith, Compassion, and Service
. - Related post-secondary education and at least 2 years of related work experience, with knowledge of issues related to poverty, mental health and addiction.
- Recovery Coaching training and experience.
- At least 20 hours of training in counselling; crisis and conflict resolution; psychosocial intervention for substance use disorders; and trauma-informed care.
- Experience working in a community organization, foundation, or other service-oriented setting.
- Experience developing Personal Development Plans (PDPs).
- Experience with Indigenous clients and working in a multi-ethnic/socially diverse community.
- Solid understanding of Stages of Change Model.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well as a team.
- Good English skills (verbal, reading and writing).
- Intermediate computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters related to the organization and its clients.
- Ability to work independently; self-motivated and disciplined, managing time effectively.
- Ability to effectively identify and solve problems and follow through on solutions.
