Position Overview
The Sustainable Workforce Coalition Apprentice will be an employee of Youth Climate Corps BC embedded within the Sustainable Workforce Coalition (SWC) team at the Zero Emissions Innovation Centre (ZEIC). The role supports the coordination of coalition members; develops materials and events to attract young people to the clean economy; and contributes to other strategic projects.
This placement is designed as a capacity‑building role for the SWC and ZEIC, and a meaningful learning and leadership development opportunity for a young person interested in climate careers that are often less visible but critical to the clean economy—including policy development, systems change, convening, research translation, and workforce strategy.
The placement also supports the ongoing development of career education and resources at YCCBC, integrating into the team activities of YCCBC, strengthening the relevance and accessibility of clean economy workforce materials, meaningfully integrating youth perspectives into systems work, and helping build the next generation of climate workforce leaders.
Responsibilities And Duties
Developing Workforce Attraction Guides and Profiles
Support the development of worker and job profiles to attract people to key roles in the clean economy using an established template.
Conduct background research on climate and sustainability occupations.
Draft job profiles and supporting materials for review by ZEIC staff.
Translate technical workforce information into accessible, youth‑friendly language.
Labour Market Insights & Research Briefs
Assist in the development of labour market insights briefs using standardized templates.
Conduct research synthesis and organize labour market data.
Support plain‑language translation of workforce trends for youth and job‑seekers.
Contribute to written and visual materials that improve workforce accessibility.
Governance & Steering Committee Support
Provide administrative and coordination support for SWC Steering Committee meetings.
Assist with meeting preparation, agenda development, and materials organization.
Take meeting notes and support follow‑up documentation.
Help maintain shared resources and support coordination across SWC work streams.
Workforce Attraction Video Materials
Support the development of clean jobs video attraction content.
Conduct background research and assist with script drafting.
Coordinate with partners and stakeholders as needed.
Provide youth‑informed feedback to ensure materials resonate with target audiences.
Youth‑Focused Engagement & Showcase Events
Support the design and delivery of 1–3 in‑person showcase events highlighting clean job profiles and career pathways.
Assist with outreach, partner coordination, and event logistics.
Contribute to presentation materials and displays.
Facilitate conversations with youth participants.
Engage with YCCBC Programs to support the expansion of career development opportunities.
Support post‑event documentation and reflection to inform future engagement efforts.
Deliverables
By the end of the placement, the apprentice will produce a final portfolio documenting their contributions across the placement, including key insights and recommendations for improving youth access to clean economy careers. Tangible outputs include:
3–6 clean jobs pathway job profiles using the SWC template.
Plain‑language career summaries translating technical workforce information into youth‑friendly resources.
Supporting graphics or digital content for clean economy career information.
2–3 labour market insights briefs summarizing clean economy workforce trends.
Plain‑language workforce insight summaries for youth, educators, and job‑seekers.
