Position: Browser Security Engineer Intern, (Fall 2026)

About Geo Comply

We’re Geo Comply! We are at the forefront of geolocation, cybersecurity, and anti‑fraud innovation, developing and delivering cutting‑edge technologies to help ensure regulatory compliance, combat bad online actors, alleviate user friction, and protect businesses from fraud.

Location: Vancouver, B.C. (Full‑time, 40 hrs/week, Contract length: Sept–Dec 2026)

Start date: September 3rd, 2026

Final date to receive applications: July 23, 2026

Salary range: $60,000 – $80,000 (annualized, prorated to your ~4‑month placement)

The Role

A fundamental research role on our push to catch the browser‑based bots that beat the signals we have today. This is not general software engineering; you’ll study how modern bots evade detection at the browser level and invent new signals to catch them. Over four months, the goal is to generate and validate a body of net‑new detection signals strong enough to become real features in Browser Guard.

What

You’ll do
  • Study how browser‑based bots evade current detection, working close to the Chromium and JavaScript internals where signals live.
  • Form and test original hypotheses that reveal bot behavior, producing a steady stream of new detection signals and feature ideas for Browser Guard (Project Decard).
  • Validate ideas against real customer data to ensure they catch bots missed by the current system without flagging real users.
  • Deliver your best signals to engineers in a form they can build and ship.
  • Take on Stretch Opportunities: high‑value projects outside the immediate scope of the role, exploring new skills and challenges.
Requirements
  • Master's or PhD‑level computer science student or recent graduate, or equivalent depth.
  • Real programmer with research instincts and experience tackling unknown problems.
  • Understanding of advanced bot detection and fraud strategies, and a desire to learn more.
  • Deep knowledge of the browser:
JavaScript from the inside and comfort or willingness to learn Chromium internals and internet protocols.
  • Independent, relentlessly curious, and thrives on pulling apart how something works.
What this role is (and isn’t)
  • Original research, not implementation; you generate ideas and prove them, engineers build them.
  • Deeply independent; set your own research direction and drive it.

Genuinely hard: a frontier problem with no answer key, for those who want to disrupt how things work.
  • High potential for a return offer and full‑time role if output measurably extends detection.
  • Not a general software‑engineering internship or a role with a checklist to execute.
  • Not for those who wait to be told what to do or lose interest when a problem is wide open.
  • Not a slow ramp; expected to grasp the codebase and start contributing real ideas within first few weeks.
Bonus Points (nice to have)
  • Contribution to the Chromium project or other open‑source browser or security work.
  • Prior research in bot detection, anti‑fraud, anti‑spoofing, or adversarial ML.
  • Published or presented original technical research.
What You’ll Gain
  • Real ownership of original research on Geo Comply’s fraud and detection frontier, evaluated by the team that leads it.
  • Foundational computer‑science research that ships and pays.
  • Path to a full‑time offer if output is strong.
  • Mentorship from the Browser Guard team, working in‑office in Vancouver alongside senior engineers.
  • Growth: meaningful impact on team and organization, expanding skills, network, and career.
