Senior Backend AI Platform Engineer

Build AI Platform services remotely from Canada using Python or Kotlin, distributed systems expertise, and production LLM experience. Support affirm’s global infrastructure.
As a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, you will design and launch governed AI systems for affirm engineers and production workloads. You will work with AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes, LLM gateways, agents, evaluation services, and observability. The team is moving AI workloads from pilots toward production inference and agents.

Key Responsibilities:

Own AI Platform projects from design through launch and on-call
Build gateway, runtime, and evaluation services for AI workloads
Develop identity, quota, routing, caching, and failover controls
Partner on security guardrails and tool-access identity models
Monitor systems through metrics, alerting, runbooks, and on-call
Requirements:
4+ years designing and launching scalable backend systems

Experience with Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
Production experience with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks
Ability to design significant, elegant, simple, extensible systems
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
Bring backend engineering, AI infrastructure, and distributed systems experience to affirm’s remote Canada AI Platform team.
