We are currently seeking a Superintendent to implement, monitor and report on the Canada Post vehicle preventative and corrective maintenance program for the repair facility and assigned remote postal facilities. The role ensures vehicle availability meets operational needs, and requires leadership, guidance and supervision of fleet maintenance staff.
Job Responsibilities- Implement and monitor the vehicle preventive and corrective maintenance program, optimizing vehicle availability and ensuring standard repair practices.
- Provide leadership and guidance and supervise day‑to‑day activities of automotive maintenance facility staff, assessing performance, coaching, and participating in staff selection, hiring, discipline, promotion and demotion.
- Gather, analyze and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the repair facility and assigned remote postal facilities, recommending improvements as needed.
- Monitor safety practices, recommend improvements or corrective actions, implement safety policies, and investigate injury‑on‑duty incidents.
- Investigate technical failures of vehicle components and determine causes in relation to tooling, maintenance practices, driving habits, or other factors.
- Plan and prioritize overall facility workload within time and budget constraints, manage vehicle maintenance expenditures, and oversee spare parts inventory at minimum cost.
- Recommend vehicle repair facility staff training to the Manager and/or Fleet Maintenance Control Officer.
- Review contractor work orders for consistency with parts and labour pricing and ensure quality assurance of completed work.
- Participate in review of Standing Offer Agreements for Automotive Services requirements.
- Ensure timely and accurate data input into the Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) and maintain vehicle file records.
- High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience managing a team within a unionized environment.
- OR Minimum 2 years’ experience coaching, mentoring and/or supervising apprentices and/or trainees within an automotive repair setting.
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to the operation of fleet vehicles and facilities.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Possess a valid permanent driver’s license (no graduated or temporary license).
- Have a satisfactory safe driving record per CPC’s Driver Safety Program, which includes:
- Not more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years.
- Not more than three demerit points assigned in a single violation.
- Not have license suspension or prohibition of any kind in the last 3 years.
- Possess a valid Motor Vehicle Mechanic licence – Certificate of Qualification with an interprovincial Red‑Seal endorsement.
- Training, experience or licences with alternate fuels (LPG, CNG, HEV, BEV, PHEV).
- Training and experience with hydraulic systems.
- Worked as a motor vehicle repair service advisor/service manager.
