Marine Dispatcher

Job Description:

As marine transportation specialists, Mercury Transport Inc. assists our clients with all year-round movement of goods, machinery and people over water.

We are seeking an Operations Manager / Marine Dispatcher to join our team based primarily in our Vancouver Harbour location

We are looking for someone with a ‘can do’ attitude who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This is a full‑time permanent position, must be available to work weekends, manage after hours on call, and may be required to travel to other Mercury Transport locations.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Self-starter who can work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude, must not be afraid to get your hands dirty.
  • Troubleshooting ability and solutions provider.
  • Able to multitask is a must.
  • Able to respond positively to new challenges and continuous improvements while maintaining current standards.
  • Must be confident, assertive and have strong communication skills
  • Local to GVRD
Duties Include:
  • Coordinating Tug, barge and water taxi services
  • Monitoring weather forecasts and current sea states.
  • Preparation of project bid and tender quotations.
  • Liaising with customers, and Mercury Transport crews.
  • Reviewing and maintaining Mercury Transport crew certifications.
  • Reviewing and maintaining Mercury Transport vessel certifications.
  • Coordinating vessel maintenance / repair schedules
  • Receiving customer materials and equipment, using mechanical equipment (e.g. forklift).
  • Maintaining storage areas in a tidy and organized manner.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in a similar role within an industrial setting.
  • Experience working within the marine industry an asset.
  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certification an asset (training can be provided).

Competencies:
  • Committed to safety and able to follow all safety procedures.
  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office 365, Acrobat Pro, Outlook.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Telephone skills a must

Job Type: Full‑time, Permanent, in office (no remote work), must be available to work weekends and after hours. Working towards week on / week off schedule.

  • Training Salary: $70K training (3 months)
  • Salary Range: $90,000 + based on skill sets
