Design & Engineering Lead

Architecture

The Design & Engineering Lead serves as the senior leader responsible for overseeing all Architecture and MEP Engineering operations within the branch office. This role carries P&L responsibility, drives staff leadership and development, ensures technical excellence across disciplines, and represents the firm in the marketplace. The ideal candidate may come from either an Architecture (RA) or Engineering (PE) background and is equally comfortable managing projects, mentoring staff, and growing client relationships.

Key Responsibilities Branch Leadership & P&L Management
  • Lead all operations of the branch office, with profit & loss responsibility, including forecasting, budgeting, staffing strategy, and operational performance.
  • Establish goals for financial health, project delivery, staff utilization, backlog stability, and growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement in workflows, standards, and branch-wide execution.
Design, Engineering, and Technical Oversight
  • Provide senior-level technical oversight for both Architectural and MEP Engineering deliverables.
  • Conduct high-level reviews to ensure design quality, code compliance, constructability, and alignment with project goals.
  • Support teams in resolving complex technical challenges and shaping overall design direction.
  • Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, designers, and project managers.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Guide the professional development of emerging talent and senior staff, including licensure pathways and leadership readiness.
  • Serve as a team builder with the ability to both bring in work and deliver work effectively.
Client Management & Business Development
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing clients while expanding the branch’s presence in the regional marketplace.
  • Lead or support proposal development, interviews, presentations, and client strategy sessions.
  • Coach staff on client communication, relationship building, and consultative selling.
  • Leverage your affinity for marketing and business development to broaden the firm’s visibility and reputation.
Market Growth & Strategic Leadership
  • Expand the company’s name, reputation, and profile through active engagement in the community and industry.
  • Identify new markets, opportunities, and service offerings aligned with branch capabilities and firm strategy.
  • Partner with senior leadership to shape long‑term growth and operational goals.
Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Engineering or Architecture required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA)
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive technical and managerial experience within an Architecture & Engineering (A/E) or consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
  • Proven success in business development, client engagement, and marketplace visibility.
  • Strong financial, operational, and organizational leadership skills.
