Position: Structural Project Designer I

Overview

IMEG is growing, and we'd love to have you join our team! We are currently seeking a Structural Project Designer in our Vancouver, WA office. As a Structural Project Designer you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects.

You will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures. This position will work within the project’s budget, while training, mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead analysis and design of structural systems using a variety of building materials; use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
  • Work as part of a project team to support consulting projects; lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines; document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring progress related to percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications; implement IMEG quality control processes to meet quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work; conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager; oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.
Key skills and abilities
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including principles in mechanics, materials, load paths, design techniques, and design standards for steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and structural systems.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and BIM tools for structural design and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges; proficiency in BIM software and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
Education and experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent (required).
  • Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Engineering In Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry.

OR

  • Associates degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred.
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry.
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
Salary and benefits

Salary Range: $83,000 - $112,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
