Early Career Civil Engineer – Portland, OR

WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer to join our Portland, OR office as part of the Pacific Mountain West Transportation Team. This role offers the opportunity to engage in a variety of infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, storm drainage, water supply, and sewage treatment systems for both public and private sector clients.

• Provide technical assistance for design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects.
• Conduct research, concept development, and engineering tasks related to roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, storm drainage, water supply systems, and sewage treatment.
• Generate accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

• Under general supervision, collect, compile, and analyze site data including surveys, blueprints, GIS information, and geotechnical data.
• Perform basic professional civil engineering work such as research, inspections, and analysis of site conditions to confirm compliance with applicable rules and permits.
• Assist with routine engineering functions and contribute to design requirements for safe and functional infrastructure.
• Generate complete documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work logs.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including statistical documentation and engineering studies.
• Complete training on assigned tasks and exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional duties as required by business needs.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 0–1 years of post‑education experience in civil engineering.
• Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with design/build processes and civil construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
• Self‑leadership, detail orientation, and ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team under general supervision.
• Basic proficiency in technical writing and office software.
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies.
• Availability for project‑specific schedules, including possible extended working hours and occasional travel.

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
• Experience with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., Micro Station, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS).
• Internship experience in civil engineering.
• Active membership in professional organizations.

Expected Salary: $56,300 – $92,840 (based on education, experience, and geographic location). WSP reserves the right to adjust compensation within or beyond the posted range.
