The Senior Detailer for Piping (Mechanical/Process) plays a crucial role in the development of detailed BIM models for mechanical and process piping systems, ensuring accurate drawings for prefabrication and installation as specified in contract documents. This position requires collaboration with engineers and project managers to resolve design issues, manage revisions, and maintain high standards of detail, precision, and quality.
Salary Range: $30 - $60 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and understand mechanical/process piping plans, P&IDs, isometrics, specifications, and equipment submittals.
- Employ CAD/BIM tools to craft 3D models of piping systems, including all necessary components for accurate fabrication and installation drawings.
- Develop detailed fabrication drawings for piping, including spools, supports, and assembly drawings.
- Create installation drawings, ensuring precise layouts and support details for mechanical/process piping.
- Produce additional drawings like sketches, equipment layouts, and penetration drawings to fully describe the scope.
- Generate reports for estimating, material procurement, QA, and productivity tracking for piping projects.
- Perform field measurements and as-built modeling for existing piping systems to integrate with new designs.
- Contribute to constructability reviews, value engineering, and conflict resolution for mechanical/process piping.
- Use Navisworks for model review to detect and resolve conflicts with other systems or structures.
- Follow project standards for controls, model content, and drawing management.
- Foster positive relationships within the project team, promoting problem-solving and productivity.
- Manage project timelines and deadlines effectively.
- Participate actively in the RFI process to clarify and resolve design issues.
- Assist in managing work packages and drawing document control for piping projects.
Experience / Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent certification.
- Five plus years as a Piping Detailer or equivalent.
- Preferred:
Field experience in mechanical/process piping. - Competence in reading and understanding P&IDs, isometrics, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu PDF software.
- Proficient with MS Office tools including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Background in industrial piping systems, methods, codes, and materials.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D piping software.

Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements for this role include the ability to transition frequently between an office and a construction field setting. In the office, the individual must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, performing repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse, and communicating by telephone. In the field, the individual must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods on various surfaces, including uneven terrain, and climbing stairs as required.
The role also necessitates the ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl to view/inspect tight spaces, as well as lifting and carrying materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Good vision and hearing are essential for reading plans, inspecting work, and communicating on-site. The individual must also be adaptable to working outdoors in various weather conditions, adhere to site-specific dress codes, and comply with safety requirements by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
