The position requires applying technical knowledge and prior experience to design controls projects, select materials, and develop sequence of operation for lower to mid-level projects. The role includes producing closeout documents at project completion. A proficient level of computer skills and understanding of computer-operated systems and engineering design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, VISIO, EDS) is required. The individual will closely interact with the Project Manager and/or assigned Project Engineer to complete projects in a timely manner.
Ability to convey information effectively in a fast-paced environment is essential. Some travel and job site visits may be required.
Job Summary
The position requires applying technical knowledge and experience for the production of controls project design, material selection, and development of sequence of operation for lower to mid-level projects. The role will produce closeout documents at project completion. Proficiency with AutoCAD, VISIO, EDS and other engineering design tools is required. The individual will work closely with the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer to ensure timely project completion.
Effective communication in a fast-paced environment is a must. Some travel and job site visits may be required.
- Researches and selects control system peripherals.
- Performs as a lead Design Engineer in the production of controls systems design drawings, sequence of operations and submittals for lower to mid-level control systems.
- Reads and interprets construction drawings and project specifications to ensure control system design compliance.
- Collaborates with other project team members to identify additional options for the customer (e.g., Energy Efficiency, Equipment Interface, Value Engineering).
- Modifies previously produced control designs to reflect field changes (As-Builts).
- Generates Operation & Maintenance manuals at project closeout.
- Manages time and cost budgets for assigned tasks as delegated by the Project Manager or higher-level Design Engineer.
- Communicates effectively with project team members regarding issues and information needs from the field.
- Recommends design modifications to resolve potential field issues.
- Submits daily and/or weekly work reports to project leadership.
- Manages weekly time allocations for multiple projects and timely submission of timesheets.
- Practices safe work habits and participates in safety programs for assigned projects.
- Attends and completes OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 safety training classes.
- Takes responsibility for assigned training and development plans.
- Participates in ongoing development programs with other entry-level engineers.
- Associates degree in a technical field or 2-5 years of related work experience in building automation systems. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and thorough understanding of controls systems.
- Knowledge of the ALC product line and other vendor products, systems, and protocols.
- Ability to read construction blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, Windows, file structure, AutoCAD, VISIO. Basic TCP/IP networking and web navigation are desired.
- Highly organized with the ability to work in a high-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet schedules.
- Ability to operate independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license.

Competitive wages: $34.00 to $44.00 per hour
