TheOpportunity
WSDOT is seeking an experienced Regional Signals and Electrical Superintendent in Vancouver, WA, to provide region‑wide leadership for the preservation, maintenance, and reliable operation of all electrical and electronic systems across the Southwest Region. Using independent professional judgment, the Superintendent serves as the final authority on scheduling, budgeting, quality assurance, safety, and staff stewardship, while advising senior leadership on staffing, policy, procedures, and delivery methods for the Electrical and Electronic Systems Specialist class series.
This role is essential to maintaining a safe, reliable, and technologically advanced transportation system that supports WSDOT’s Strategic Plan, including oversight of complex systems such as traffic signals, roadway illumination, and ITS, and region‑specific technologies like Part‑Time Shoulder Lanes and Active Traffic Management Systems.
This role directs the Electrical Inspection and utility locate programs, ensuring compliance with national, state, and local requirements, while coordinating closely with city, county, state, and Tribal partners. The position also collaborates with other Regional Signal and Electrical Superintendents to develop and implement statewide training and testing programs for electrical and electronic staff and ensures strong alignment between planning, design, operations, and maintenance activities.
Whatto Expect
- Provide region‑wide leadership and supervision of the preservation and maintenance of all electrical/electronic systems and equipment within the Southwest Region
- Direct and manage the Electrical Inspection program within the region to ensure compliance with ongoing contract work, national, state, and local statutes.
- Direct and manage the utility locate program as required by state statute.
- Coordinate, assist, and work closely with numerous city, county, and state agencies to maintain efficient traffic flow and adequate facilities within the state right‑of‑way.
- Partner with other Regional Signal and Electrical Superintendents to develop and implement the training and testing program for electrical/electronic employees.
- Ensure the close coordination between planning, design, operations, and maintenance activities and staff.
- Perform work using independent judgment and is final approval for schedule, budget, quality of work, safety, and stewardship of work unit employees.
- Make recommendations to senior management for staffing decisions, policy, and procedures for delivery methods, and ongoing training for statewide Electrical and Electronic Systems Specialist class series.
