Position Summary:
This position has full authority and responsibility for project profits and losses and manages all aspects of assigned ship repair projects. The individual provides primary customer interface throughout the project. Through project team members, the Project Integrator manages labor and materials to achieve timely, better‑than‑bid results and assure customer satisfaction.
- Plans, estimates, negotiates, staffs, directs the work, and reconciles final billings on assigned projects.
- Meets or exceeds customers' realistic expectations for quality, productivity and safety, and manages customer relationships through scope and price changes.
- Resolves issues with customers, owners, port authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Works closely with Contracting & Estimating to estimate, plan, execute and settle projects, providing documentation for billing and negotiation of change orders.
- Serves as the Program Control Account Manager (CAM), planning, coordinating, and achieving all work within control accounts.
- Interprets specifications, plans sequencing, coordinates phases to prevent delays and rework, and approves change order requests.
- Writes timely and accurate documentation of each job and contributes to final specifications.
- Confers with supervision, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve repair problems and improve methods.
- Plans, coordinates and directs production activities, ensuring daily staffing and manpower utilization meet project requirements.
- Prepares periodic management reports on progress, materials, and costs, adjusting schedules as needed.
- Establishes program metrics and publishes performance on a weekly, bi‑weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
- Maintains effective working relationships with staff and resolves labor complaints efficiently.
- Leads post‑mortem reviews, ensures documentation and dissemination of lessons learned.
- Ensures worker safety and environmental concerns are monitored and resolved.
- Evaluates performance of direct reports, providing feedback and recommending development activities.
- Remains technically competent and up‑to‑date with industry practices.
- Analyzes cost data, quality and capability to decide internal vs subcontracting for products or services.
- Manages subcontractor/vendor performance, setting expectations and holding them accountable.
- Supports program battle rhythm: action item reporting, meeting minutes, briefing material.
- Provides ad hoc support to the Program Manager.
- Monitors job progress using earned value management techniques and reports on performance.
The role operates within general parameters but requires sound judgment and independent decision making. Typically manages projects ranging from $0.5M to $5M and that last six weeks or longer. The incumbent has profit and loss responsibility and is crucial for securing revenue. Failure to meet customer expectations could result in significant loss of future business.
Supervisory ResponsibilityManages up to fifty employees through subordinate supervisors. Those managed have varying technical expertise and reading/writing skills, including professional and hourly craft employees. The position operates at a senior oversight level but must reach from detail to strategic levels.
