Interim Assistant Nurse Manager, Labor and Delivery

Healthcare Executive Placements, Inc. (HCEPInc) is seeking an Interim Assistant Nurse Manager, Labor and Delivery for a W2 Contract position based in Los Angeles, CA.

Schedule: Full time, 3 12's Night shift, 7:30pm-8:00am
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks with high likelihood of extending
Compensation:

This position offers a daily rate of $640 to $655 which equates to $3,200 to $3,275 per week (based on a 36-40 hour workweek).
Per Diems:
Lodging: $191 per day and Meals & Incidentals: $86 per day. Per diems are paid daily, 7 days a week, totaling $1,939 per week.
Auto Stipend: $25 per day. Stipend is paid daily, 7 days a week, totaling $175 per week.

Total Weekly Compensation (Daily Rate + Per Diems + Stipend): Between $5,314 to $5,389 per week.
Benefits: Paid sick leave, Paid holidays, Co‑paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, Cafeteria plan access and 401(k) retirement plan.

Summary: The Assistant Nurse Manager of Labor and Delivery (Night Shift) supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing clinical operations, staff management, and patient care delivery during the night shift. This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to nursing standards, implementing evidence‑based practices, promoting patient safety, and fostering a collaborative work environment. The Assistant Nurse Manager provides direct leadership to nursing staff, assists with departmental planning, and plays a key role in maintaining compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements specific to overnight operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides leadership and supervision of the Labor and Delivery unit during the night shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care.
  • Oversees patient flow, staffing, and clinical assignments to maintain appropriate coverage and workload balance throughout the night.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to staff, providing guidance and support in managing complex or emergent situations.
  • Promotes adherence to professional nursing standards and evidence‑based practices, with an emphasis on maternal‑fetal safety.
  • Collaborates with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care across shifts.
  • Ensures timely and accurate documentation in compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and state/federal regulations.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, risk management, and audit readiness with a focus on night shift operations.
  • Assists in staff development through mentoring, training, and performance feedback.
  • Supports supply management, equipment readiness, and resource allocation to meet unit needs overnight.
  • Promotes a positive work culture that encourages teamwork, accountability, and professional excellence during night operations.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or BA in a healthcare‑related field required;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Certifications:

    Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring required.
  • Minimum 3‑4 years of clinical nursing experience in Labor and Delivery or a related maternal‑child health specialty.
  • At least 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to lead effectively during overnight hours.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and staff development in a fast‑paced environment.
